Applications are invited for the post of Head of Electronics Engineers Group in the Technical Services Group which provides support for Physics research.
The post is a permanent position.
The Head of the Electronics Engineering Group will be responsible for all the Electronics related design and engineering work for the Physics Department. The post holder is required to manage a team of Electronics and Electrical Engineers, have total budgeting responsibility for this team and is responsible for the strategic development, quality and output of the unit. The Physics Department participates in a number of high profile design and build experimental programmes involving other international institutions and laboratories. The Head of the Electronics Engineers group must be a recognized authority in Electronics engineering and therefore have the right level of technical knowledge and project management skills to play a key role in these programmes. The post holder is required to work collaboratively with academics to explore new project opportunities. (The post holder will participate in supervising student projects at under-graduate and postgraduate levels.)
Applicants should possess a degree in Electronics Engineering or have equivalent experience. In the latter case, two references are required which specifically details the applicant’s professional level and explains how these are considered equivalent to the required qualification. They should have a strong background in design techniques such as SPICE simulation, FPGA and other digital design, Analogue electronics design, PCB CAD, with sound knowledge of Electrical Engineering principles and managing large scale projects. A good understanding of the Low voltage and related directives and Have a demonstrable record of accomplishment in Electronics engineering including publications and design reports.
In addition to Electronics Engineering knowledge, the candidate must be a team player have good presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal and proven leadership qualities
Previous experience of transfer of technology from the university sector to industry and to be a member of a recognised professional institution would be desirable
