About the Role

Falmouth Universities ambitious 2030 Strategy, ‘Doing it for Real’, is designed to deliver yet further growth in our student numbers and income through portfolio diversification, innovation, research and commercial ventures. It will establish Falmouth as the market leader for creative industries and entrepreneurship education over the next decade, capitalising on our considerable assets in innovation-led research and business incubation.

To help deliver our 2030 Strategy, we are now looking to recruit a dynamic Course Leader for our new BA (Hons) Musical Theatre.  The post-holder will be responsible to the Subject Head of Theatre & Dance. 

The Academy of Music and Theatre Arts (AMATA) at Falmouth University is a vibrant, entrepreneurial and industry-connected hub for performers, technicians and managers in training. You will have experience in Musical Theatre directing and/or Musical Directing and/or experience of industry level singing pedagogy within a practical performance training context.  You will also be expected to deliver core curriculum content in contextual performance studies lectures.

As Course Leader you will be responsible for the successful recruitment, development and profile of this new course and will shape and lead the new staff team.  You will lead the preparation and delivery of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials and will be responsible for rigorous processes of assessment and module management. 

About You

The successful candidate will have comprehensive knowledge and a high level of professional expertise in musical theatre training for the contemporary actor/performer, able to deliver practical skills training in the areas of singing, acting and/or dance, contexts and histories, professional development and devising skills for the contemporary musical theatre performer.  You may also offer additional training expertise in such areas as: musical composition, choreography, performing for screen and digital media and business entrepreneurship and will have strong professional industry connections. 

Excellent communication skills and the commitment to design, lead and deliver an outstanding learning experience for the students is a pre-requisite.  You will contribute to our Outreach and recruitment initiatives and be joining a talented and ambitious team of specialists who prioritise the student experience within an exciting and developing subject area
