This post forms part of the Cancer Institute Operational team delivering health and safety, buildings, facilities and laboratory operational support to research scientists. The role will cover the Bloomsbury and Hampstead campus, with specific responsibilities aligned to duties at the Hampstead Campus (Royal Free Hospital Site).

 The role will provide a high-quality service, interacting with a range of people within and external to UCL, thus a professional attitude and willingness to help are essential to execute the duties outlined.

 The post holder is required to be able to use their own initiative within boundaries and be able to follow University procedures.

 The successful candidate will conduct local Health and Safety inductions, as well as liaise with Royal Free Facilities and the Estates team on operational matters and act as the primary point of contact for the Institutes Royal Free laboratories on safety and operational matters.

 They will assist the Cancer Institute Buildings, Facilities & Operations team with smooth operation of the laboratory facilities / areas and also help with the maintenance of communal equipment service contract renewals and co-ordinate/schedule contract service/repair works.

 The successful candidate will need to provide equipment training and assist with trouble-shooting equipment failures, as well as maintain equipment service and repair records and assist with procurement of equipment and consumables.

 A relevant biological science or biomedical science undergraduate degree as well as experience of working in a research laboratory environment is essential.

The post holder must be able to work independently once trained, whilst also having good interpersonal and relationship skills for team working. They must also be able to maintain a calm manner under time pressure.

 The successful candidate must have the ability to prioritise work and make decisions at a local level and be confident in building rapport and being comfortable with others across different cultures and backgrounds. The ability to undertake occasional manual lifting is also essential.
