Birmingham City University - IT Solution Development

An exciting position within the IT Development Team of one of the region's largest and most ambitious Universities. 

The mixed discipline team of .NET developers, testers, designers and BI developers provide cloud-based and on-prem software solutions for students and staff of the institution in the areas of web, mobile, integration and data. Highly dynamic, the team use Scrum with Agile Testing with cutting edge and cloud-based tooling to bring quality and value to a wide spectrum of stakeholders.

We are seeking full-stack web developers with experience of Microsoft .NET and Azure technologies. The university operates a combination of on-prem and cloud-based commercial line of business systems and in house developed web and mobile applications all sharing a common integration platform. As such we are open to both frontend and backend orientated full stack developers.

Experienced in agile development environments, you will become an integral part of a scrum team focussed on delivering quality solutions to the University at pace, working in tandem with Architects, Developers, Testers and Operations in a highly collaborative build-test-ship partnership.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • C# w/ .NET Framework 4.8 for general applications development
  • .NET Core 3.1 and onwards
  •  ASP.NET MVC with Razor
  • Use of JSON, XML & CSV
  • Working with source control such as Azure DevOps, SVN & Git
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
  • Experience of TDD or BDD

Desirable (candidates may have a subset of the following based on experience/background)

  • Azure development, PaaS services such as Web Apps, Functions, Logic Apps, Service Bus, Azure SQL, etc
  • Creating and consuming web APIs for integration between applications and cloud services
  • Front end JavaScript frameworks such as React and jQuery
  • SQL Server development for applications
  • Ability to take frontend concept work and assets to build out web experiences
  • An understanding and appreciation of SOA and microservices.
  • Any experience of effective release management processes, ideally in Azure DevOps.
