Deputy Librarian in the Library & Study Centre
(FT permanent position: Salary £29,614 - £35,326 p.a.: University Grade 6)
Applications are invited for the post of Deputy Librarian in the Library & Study Centre of St John’s College, Oxford. St John’s is one of larger colleges in Oxford, with around 600 members. The Library dates back to the 16th century, and has substantial historical collections, whilst also maintaining student-focussed undergraduate collections and services.
The successful applicant will assist the College Librarian in the management and day-to-day running of the Library and deputise for the College Librarian in their absence. The post focuses on collection management responsibilities and duties in both the lending collections and the historic collections. This is an exciting time for St John’s College’s Library, as the Library & Study Centre (opened October 2019) has not yet reached its full potential due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the refurbishment of the College’s two historic libraries and creation of a designated exhibition area are expected to be completed in spring/ summer 2023.
To apply, please write a covering letter explaining your suitability for the post and email it with a full CV to Amanda Armstrong, HR Officer, (email@example.com). Alternatively, post the application to Amanda Armstrong, HR Officer, St John’s College, Oxford, OX1 3JP. Your application must include the names, addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers of two referees, one of which must be your current line manager. Please state how each referee knows you (e.g. ‘line manager’, ‘work colleague’, ‘college tutor’). The College will assume that it is free to approach referees at any stage unless the candidate’s application stipulates otherwise. Candidates who wish a referee or referees to be approached only with their specific permission and/or if they are invited to attend an interview, are asked to state such requirements explicitly alongside the details of the relevant referee(s).
Your application should arrive no later than 12 noon on Tuesday, 8th February 2022. Applications received after this date may not be considered. It is planned that interviews will be held in the week beginning the 28th February 2022 (whether remotely or in person will depend on the status of the pandemic at the time). Please direct questions about the post to the College Librarian, Dr Petra Hofmann (firstname.lastname@example.org).
St John’s College is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all. We encourage job applicants from all sectors of the community and are especially keen to encourage women and candidates from other under-represented groups to apply for advertised positions.
