The UCL Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering (CEGE) is a multidisciplinary department with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are designed to educate Engineers in a dynamic and exciting learning environment. The Department has an extensive research portfolio across a wealth of areas and has consistently been among the best funded such departments in the UK.
The research carried out in the department reflects a broad multidisciplinary view of the engineering world and encompasses navigation of space shuttles and control of observation satellites, to tunnelling beneath the planet’s surface, for example. Research projects and centres span disciplines to provide new and innovative solutions and thinking that refers back to the human and the applied.
The Identity and Engagement Manager will develop and implement an engagement and communications strategy that draws together the many facets of this Department to present a coherent identity to internal and external stakeholders and develops a sense of community that transcends the challenges of hybrid working (i.e. working remotely combined with working on campus).
You will also work with Faculty and Central marketing colleagues to ensure that our identity is reflected in student marketing campaigns, and play a pivotal working alongside other members of the professional services team so that together we can support our academic colleagues and students. The relationships you build will be intrinsic to the success of your role and enhance the community-building and engagement activities.
Whether you have a formal communications qualification or experience in a related discipline (e.g. journalism, public relations) the most important requirement for is us that you are a communicator in the broadest sense – able to listen, gather information and synthesise it for the right audience. This requires a strong understanding of websites, social media and multimedia, and the different ways in which they can convey or enhance engagement and communications. Excellent networking and negotiating skills, with the ability to influence and persuade, are also essential.
