FjordMIX aims to advance our understanding of the interaction of the Greenland Ice Sheet with the ocean through the development of a fjord box modelling framework and its application on an ice-sheet wide scale. The project will run from 2022 to 2025 and is a collaboration between the University of St Andrews (PI Tom Cowton), University of Edinburgh (co-I Donald Slater) and Scottish Association for Marine Science, Oban (co-I Mark Inall). The PDRA will therefore primarily work with Donald Slater but will also interact closely with the named collaborators and two other postdocs in St Andrews and Oban.
This PDRA position is one of two currently advertised as part of the FjordMIX project. The second post is based at the University of St Andrews. Candidates are welcome to apply to both positions.
The Opportunity:
The PDRA will need to exhibit independence and resourcefulness in carrying out model to observation/MITgcm comparisons, including: running the fjord box model, preparing observations for comparison, identifying differences and possible sources of disagreement, finding and testing possible solutions. As part of this process the PDRA will need to develop, extend, and debug sophisticated codes with independence.
