We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) to join the Information and Network Science Lab at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is funded by the United States Army Research Office and is fixed-term to 31 March 2025, with possible further extension, subject to additional funding.
The research project the PDRA will be involved in is focused on the study of rate-distortion theory for graph sources, particularly graphs derived from node connectivity rules governed by a latent metric space (e.g., random geometric graphs). The project will also aim to develop compression methods that achieve the calculated rate-distortion bounds. The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out a programme of research on agreed topics, assisting with supervision of students, and aiding the development of further project proposals.
You should possess a PhD (or be near to completion) in the area of information theory, communication theory, or a related field of study.
Only online applications received before midday on 7th July 2022 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
