The University of Greater Manchester is a “Teaching Intensive, Research Informed” higher education institution whose distinctive, high-quality, student-focused undergraduate and postgraduate programmes attract students from all over the world.
We are seeking to appoint a full-time Associate Lecturer / Lecturer in Quantity Surveying within our School of Engineering. The successful candidate will join a committed and forward-thinking academic team delivering programmes within our expanding Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, and Facilities Management portfolio, which is recognised for providing high-quality, industry-relevant education.
The main function of this role is to educate and support students by delivering engaging and rigorous teaching in key areas such as measurement, construction economics, commercial management, and contract administration. You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate programme delivery, supervise student work, and support curriculum development. You will also be expected to contribute to the School’s research and enterprise activities and work collaboratively to enhance the learning experience and employability outcomes of our students.
Applicants should hold an Honours degree in a relevant subject, ideally in Quantity Surveying. Registration with a relevant professional body, such as RICS or CIOB, is essential, or you must be willing to achieve this within a specified timeframe. You should have relevant teaching or academic delivery experience and the ability to apply professional knowledge in an educational setting. A willingness to obtain a teaching qualification and/or fellowship of the Higher Education Academy is expected, if not already held. You should also be committed to undertaking a PhD or Professional Doctorate if you do not currently possess one.
A PhD/Professional Doctorate, Chartered status, and experience in working with industry or developing applied partnerships would be highly desirable. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a commitment to subject-specific research and to building external links that enhance the student experience and support graduate employability.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking, professionally focused institution where innovation, student engagement, and applied learning are at the heart of everything we do.
We ask a lot from our staff, but in return, you will receive a competitive benefits package including access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, an employee benefits programme, and generous annual leave entitlement. As a small university, you’ll also enjoy the opportunity to work closely with colleagues across campus to support and deliver the best student experience possible.
