Assurance Directorate, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2JD (currently hybrid working)
About the Directorate
Comprising of the Risk, Compliance and Assurance; Information Security; Information Compliance and Business Continuity teams, the Assurance Directorate manages risk, ensures compliance and provides assurance to the University’s Council, its Committee and sub-Committees, and senior decision-makers including the Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellors and the Registrar. Our remit also covers working across the wider university, with our work mainly focused on divisions and departments, and dealing with the regulators, external customers and other stakeholders.
About the Role
The Audit and Assurance Manager is a key member of the Risk, Compliance and Assurance team, reporting to the Head of Risk, Compliance and Assurance. This is an exciting new role created to help the University get maximum value from the audit and assurance work and to further improve our risk and assurance arrangements.
The post holder will be responsible for the smooth running of the internal audit programme, monitoring performance, follow up of management actions and sharing of lessons learned across relevant parts of the University and reporting on this. The post holder will also act as Assistant Secretary to the Audit and Scrutiny Committee and the Assurance Management Group, which reports into Audit and Scrutiny Committee.
A further key dimension of the role is the ability to proactively resolve issues and to provide advice, guidance and support on risk and assurance best practice to a network of colleagues across the University (e.g. Divisions, departments, professional services). This ensures appropriate assurance is provided over key risks and facilitating reporting back to Audit and Scrutiny Committee, Council or other stakeholders. The role will also include further developing and maintaining the University’s assurance map and assurance tools and coordinating with other RCA team members on relevant risk and compliance activities.
You may have audit, assurance, risk or governance background, for example currently working as a qualified auditor, Committee secretary, or in another professional services, governance, or assurance role. That said, your exact background is less important than your passion for and interest in risk and assurance and related matters handled by the team and the ability to quickly develop the relevant expertise.
You will enjoy working in a very complex, devolved environment and cope well with challenges involved in a corporate role. You’ll be comfortable achieving and meeting the evolving demands of the organisation, going the extra mile on a daily basis.
Knowledge of the University of Oxford or other universities would be an advantage; the ability to develop such knowledge and build effective relationships is a must.
What we offer
You will benefit from support and working in close collaboration with the rest of our committed team. We will invest in your personal development through training and professional development. The University also offers an excellent contributory pension scheme and generous annual leave on appointment.
