We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.

The Role
We are excited to invite applications for an Artist in Residence to join the NIHR Patient Safety Research Collaborative (PSRC), based within the School of Pharmacy. This opportunity is part of the PSRC project's aims to explore creative arts collaboration and its potential for public engagement. It is open to creative practitioners across a wide range of disciplines including visual and digital arts, film, dance, music, sound, performance, and more.

We are seeking proposals from artists with a socially engaged practice, particularly those experienced in working alongside people living with—or caring for those with—multiple long term conditions (MLTCs) from all backgrounds.

The successful artist will work closely with the PSRC's leads for Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE), the Director, and researchers across our themes. The role will involve developing activities and public facing creative outputs that respond to our research, reflect the lived experiences, insights, and feedback from patients and carers involved in NIHR Newcastle PSRC projects.

The successful applicant will have access to a flexible working space within the Faculty of Medical Science. Support for art activities and arts consumables will be available.

As part of your application, you will be asked to provide statement briefly describing your current work and the reasons for your interest in this residency and your CV.

You will also be asked to submit some samples of recent work. This may include:

  • Up to 6 images.
  • Creative writing samples.
  • Online links to Film or video work (please provide time codes if over 5 minutes).
  • Online links to Audio work (please provide time codes if over 5 minutes).

This post is 0.5 FTE, fixed-term for 12 months. This is expected to be 18.5 hours per week, and work patterns are flexible.
