Department
The Academic Section is one of the University's Professional Services sections and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration and plays a central role in delivering the University's commitment to excellence in education across the institution.
The International Services Team is part of the Academic Registrar’s Office, at the heart of the Academic Section. overseeing the University’s compliance with its obligations to the Home Office as an immigration sponsor, and supporting students with immigration permission throughout their time with us.
Duties of the Role
As a member of the International Services Team, you will work collaboratively with colleagues to support the University’s compliance with UK Immigration Rules as they relate to students, and to support international students in completing their studies and achieving good degrees.
The successful candidate will use knowledge of the immigration rules and University policies to support the international student experience at the University of Essex through delivery of high-quality information, advice and guidance, whilst maintaining accurate records of actions taken by the University in relation to immigration sponsor duties.
The role will be pivotal in supporting the processes and procedures in keeping with the University’s status as an immigration sponsor.
This is a part-time post working 28.8 hours per week (0.8fte).
Skills and qualifications required
We are looking for a motivated team player who puts the needs of our students at the heart of everything we do. You will demonstrate highly effective administrative skills and will have experience of working in a customer facing frontline service and casework environment together with knowledge of the Home Office requirements in respect of the UK’s Immigration rules as they apply to students. You will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce accessible information across a range of audiences.
You will be someone who can establish positive rapport with colleagues and students, think creatively, and work accurately and with attention to detail, including when under pressure. You will be flexible in your approach and will use your ‘can do’ attitude to best effect when working as a member of a busy team.
