About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Laboratory Technician working in the Geosciences Building. You will be responsible for the Geography and Geology Laboratories’ practical organisation, including day to day running of facilities and development of good practice, to ensure all areas are technically supported.
In supporting teaching, staff and student research and knowledge exchange activities, and advising and supporting the Head of Department, you will contribute to the smooth running of the Department.
The role includes oversight of Department health and safety arrangements and their operational implementation to include the specific requirements of ensuring a safe working environment in our workplace, our laboratories, and with field equipment.
Occasional weekend working, residential and potentially overseas fieldwork may be required.
As a Senior Laboratory Technician, you will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing a high-quality student experience. You will have experience of laboratory management and day-to-day running of a physical geography/geology/environmental science laboratory. You will have experience and familiarity with a range of laboratory techniques and field equipment and be proficient in all Health and Safety aspects of running a lab including COSHH, handling chemicals and their safe disposal.
You will be a positive contributor with a flexible approach to problem solving and the ability to react constructively in response to changing and results-oriented laboratory situations.
A degree in Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline is essential or a commitment to develop appropriate level subject knowledge.
