Applications are invited for this maternity cover Postdoctoral Researcher to work with Prof Davey Jones and Dr Kata Farkas in the School of Natural Sciences at Bangor University.
Duties will include the sequencing of human pathogenic viruses and bacteria in wastewater. In the first instance the successful candidate will support research activities associated with the wastewater-based surveillance of viruses (e.g. SARS-CoV-2, Influenza, Norovirus) and other microbiological agents for public health benefit. The successful candidate will also support research activities pertaining to the behaviour and fate of bacteria and viruses in the wider environment. The research will directly support the Welsh Government One Health agenda delivering policy-relevant information to a range of public organisations (e.g. Public Health Wales, Natural Resources Wales).
Candidates should possess a PhD (or near completion) in environmental microbiology and have good knowledge of genomics sequencing platforms (e.g. Illumina NextSeq) and associated bioinformatic pipelines. strong experience in running research projects and producing high quality journal papers.
The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible and the post is available until 30th June, 2023.
This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.
