About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of surgical training courses within the Bjorn Saven Centre (BSC) for Surgical Education. The Technical Assistant team set up (and set down) all of the courses that we deliver, preparing tissues and resources as necessary and ensure the teaching faculty have everything that they need to deliver the course. As well as general cleaning and tidying requirements, there is also the opportunity to be part of the office-based administrative teams in the processing of course related paperwork.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Simulation and Skills Coordinators (SSC) for a range of surgical skills and simulation-based courses, which includes set up, set down and the provision of in situ support to the course director/ faculty/ participants/ additional attendees for the duration of the course.
  • The storage, preparation and appropriate disposal of all animal tissue requirements for use on all skills-based courses.
  • Monitoring stock levels of consumables including those provided as a ‘Gift in Kind’.
  • Dealing effectively with technical requests, problems and queries during the delivery of a course.
  • Ensuring badges, handbooks/materials, spare programmes and registration sheets are prepared and are at registration point.
  • Preparation, administration and support of virtual courses including the coordination of breakout spaces and the outputs of these for shared sessions.
  • Ensuring Standard Operating Procedures and Protocols are adhered to with regard to the storage, preparation and disposal of animal tissue, ensuring that health and safety and infection control risks are minimised.
  • Regular decontamination of laboratory, tissue preparation and storage areas.

About you

Qualifications

  • NVQ level 3 or higher, ideally a BSc in a Biomedical Science subject

Skills/Experience

  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment, healthcare or educational setting.
  • Delivering a customer focused service.
  • Ability to work flexibly.
  • Excellent organisational skills and methodical approach to work.
  • Ability to work individually and as a team player.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple workstreams/ projects in different phases at the same time.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Planner, SharePoint and One Note.
