We are seeking a talented and motivated individual with excellent communication skills to join our team within Estates Services at the University of Oxford. This role is offered as a full time position.
The Direct Labour Organisation (DLO) provides front line maintenance support to Oxford University departments based in the University’s varied functional estate portfolio. This portfolio includes over 230 buildings comprising teaching and research spaces, libraries, museums and administrative functions. These include a large number of internationally significant buildings, such as the Grade I listed Radcliffe Camera and Bodleian Libraries, world renowned museums, such as the Ashmolean and the University Museum of the History of Science, and important research collections, such as the Oxford Botanic Gardens and Arboretum. In addition to these important heritage assets, the estate also includes a large number of highly technical science and research buildings, award winning modern architecture and an interesting collection of mid-late 20th century structures which each present their own set of challenges.
The DLO Mechanical Team undertakes an interesting mix of reactive and planned maintenance to these buildings, ensuring the continued provision of world class teaching, research and learning across the University. The Mechanical Team Supervisor is responsible for managing a large team of qualified tradesman, providing leadership and expertise, and ensuring a customer focused delivery of on average 2,400 jobs per annum plus PPM work, ensuring works are carried out safely and efficiently and escalating problems to DLO Management or the Building Service engineers when necessary.
The Mechanical Team work closely with the Building Services Engineers and Inspectors, as well as the Electrical Team within DLO and a number of external contractors and preferred suppliers to ensure that day to day repairs are undertaken in a timely fashion with minimum disruption to departments.
The University is seeking an individual with the relevant experience and qualifications suitable to undertake this role. Experience of managing a team of trade’s people, including organising and allocating work, as well as the relevant health and safety requirements within a similar organisation is essential. You will also need to be an excellent communicator, with exceptional inter-personal skills. A thorough understanding of buildings/facilities management issues and procedures with a proactive approach to resolving problems to ensure the team meet SLA targets and have a strong customer focus.
