Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate to work with Dr Teodora Gliga (UEA) and other team members from University of East Anglia, Birkbeck and Goldsmiths, on a project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), at University of East Anglia.
Compared to deaf infants with deaf parents, many deaf infants born to hearing parents experience reduced access to the main language used by their family and enter school with less developed language. This project will investigate the role that language exposure has on early cognitive development, in a cohort of congenitally deaf infants. We will develop new methods for quantifying conceptual development in hearing and deaf infants and new paradigms that capture learning in naturalistic interaction.
You will work in our state-of-the art Developmental labs, equipped with EEG, eye-tracking and fNIRS systems. You will be responsible for recruiting participants, behavioural and EEG data collection from infants and toddlers as well as contribute to experiment design and data analysis, commensurate with your expertise.
You must hold a degree in Psychology, Neuroscience (preferably at PhD level), and have research experience with developmental populations as well as satisfying all the essential criteria detailed in the person specification for this post. You will have experience with statistical analysis packages. Being able to communicate in British Sign Language is a desirable criterion.
This post is available from 10 October 2022, on a full-time basis for a fixed term period of 2 years, with the possibility of extension. The University is committed to diversifying its workforce.
