Fixed-term for up to 24 months

The Operations Manager - CDTs is a member of the administrative and operational team supporting Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) within the College of Engineering & Physical Sciences (EPS). You will be responsible for project management and operational functionality within the team’s remit.  You  will provide leadership and expertise in the development and implementation of effective administrative and operational structures to support the wider College CDT strategy. You will support the Heads of Operations – CDTs, CDT Directors and members of College leadership on a day-to-day basis to facilitate the operational delivery of CDTs.

Main duties include:

Strategic

  • Support in preparing and developing the College’s strategic plan for CDTs and monitoring progress towards aims and objectives
  • Support the development of effective research and education plans
  • Implement best practice and consistency of approach across all CDT administrative areas

Leadership

  • Provide effective leadership and expertise within the CDT management team
  • Develop effective centre management structures, identify opportunities for delivery of research, marketing and student-focused events collaboratively to benefit all Centres
  • Establish effective network contacts to coordinate action, minimise duplication and share good practice.
  • Support the delivery of change projects across the College 

Personnel and Staff Management

  • Manage and oversee the work of the Senior Administrator
  • Coach and encourage staff in a supportive environment
  • Contribute to and deliver training and other forms of support to staff

Financial Management

  • Support with the co-ordination of the annual budgeting and forecasting review process.
  • Monitor expenditure across UKRI funded CDTs
  • Support contract management for collaborative industrial partnerships.
  • Monitor and track invoicing, industrial income and prepare for external financial audit.

Academic Activity

  • Support the production of management information, reports and returns
  • Ensure regulatory compliance across the College’s CDTs

Infrastructure and Facilities Management

  • Identify space and infrastructure needs for emergent centres, identifying opportunities to improve facilities where appropriate.
  • Respond to academic needs for infrastructure improvements

Marketing/Communications

  • Support the delivery of the Marketing and Communications plan for the CDTs
  • Support internal communications across the College
  • Support the development of CDT webpages, social media and external advertising,

Operational

  • Support the delivery of service standards and local policies and procedures for the efficient operation of the CDTs.

Person Specification includes:

  • First degree or equivalent, along with a relevant higher degree or professional training such as ILM or substantial experience normally associated with this level of qualification.
  • Significant operational and administrative experience.
  • Demonstrable people and financial monitoring experience
  • Experience of data mining and sourcing information
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of UK HE funding mechanisms
