Applications are invited for the post of Workshop Technician in the Department of Earth Sciences to take up appointment as soon as possible.
We are looking for a well-organised senior technician to support experimental work and teaching in Earth Sciences. The appointee will be based in our instrument workshop. The primary responsibilities include designing, building and maintaining experimental apparatus. In addition to formal engineering training beyond ONC level, expertise in machining diverse materials, including metals and ceramics, to a high tolerance is important. Some basic knowledge of electronics would be desirable. Training in specialised skills can be provided.
The successful applicant must play a full part as a member of the Department's team of support staff, covering for others where necessary; this may involve assisting with other duties on occasions, particularly at busy periods.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
