Civil and Environmental Engineering at Brunel University London has enjoyed a sustained period of growth in our research portfolio and educational provision in our undergraduate and postgraduate courses, in particular MSc courses. The department has identified Digital Construction as a major pillar in its strategic plan for research and education over the next five years, working together with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Department of Computer Science, Research Center on AI: Social and Digital Transformation, etc. within the College of Engineering, Design, and Physical Sciences and beyond. Our ambition is to develop a leading national and international competence in this area. Please note that we are not looking for expertise solely in Building Information Modelling. The university has recently allocated 250 m2 of laboratory space for a Digital and Modular Construction Centre for supporting teaching and research in the area of digital construction.
We are now looking to appoint an ambitious and creative academic to lead our Digital Construction portfolio, at either Reader or Senior Lecturer level, depending on the merit of the successful candidate. Applicants are required to indicate which level (Reader or Senior Lecturer) they are applying for in their cover letter or application form. The successful candidate is also expected to complement our growing strength in Civil Engineering research and teaching (in particular our BEng/MEng Civil Engineering and MSc Project & Infrastructure Management courses).
The candidate should be self-motivated with clear ability and expertise. In addition, you are expected to have a PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or another relevant discipline, and should be aspiring to develop an internationally leading profile in your chosen field of expertise related to digital construction. Shortlisted candidates will be able to demonstrate their potential through the quality of journal publications, research income generation and engagement with industry and other stakeholders.
High-quality teaching and student satisfaction are of paramount importance at Brunel University London and we expect the successful candidate to be able to engage warmly and constructively with our students and colleagues to provide a high-quality learning experience to our students. Membership (or evidence of pursuing chartered engineer status) of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers or a similar professional body is highly desirable. Applications from candidates with industrial experience, over and above strong research and teaching track record, would be particularly welcome.
Informal enquiries regarding this post should be made to the Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Professor Xiangming Zhou (Xiangming.Zhou@brunel.ac.uk).
Closing date for applications: 30 October 2022
