We are looking to employ a hardworking individual as Team Based Learning (TBL) Facilitator. The appointed individual will play a key role in the delivery of TBL at Brunel Medical School (BMS), including the provision of digital technologies to support TBL, and training programmes for clinical and academic staff (TBL Facilitators and staff engaged as Content Experts). This post is at Lecturer level and is a substantive permanent role.

BMS is the UK’s newest medical school, with its first cohort of international students starting the MBBS programme in September 2022. BMS has adopted TBL as its core pedagogical approach, replacing all face to face lectures in Years 1 and 2. Other distinctive features of the programme include early patient experience in primary care, programmatic assessment and a focus on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

Reporting to the Director of Academic Affairs, the post-holder will be part of the TBL team led by the Head of TBL and Educational Development, contributing to the implementation of TBL across successive student cohorts of the 5-year programme. They will also be responsible for innovation in TBL to enhance the student experience. The combination of TBL, digital innovation and programmatic assessment provides a unique opportunity for research and scholarship.

The post-holder will have a professional background as a scientist or educator, and their responsibilities will include:

  • Contribution to the implementation of TBL, with appropriate operationalisation in terms of digital education, pedagogy and technical integration, ensuring the BMS approach remains informed by international standards of best practice.
  • Joining a team of TBL Facilitators, supporting new training and professional development initiatives. TBL Facilitators at BMS will generally be staff engaged in other teaching or educational activities alongside their TBL role.
  • Contribute to the implementation of TBL training programmes for TBL Facilitators and Content Experts.
  • Contribute to educational research, scholarship and innovation in relation to TBL and digital education, to enhance the quality and distinctiveness of the MBBS programme.
  • Promote interdisciplinarity and/or interprofessional learning within BMS, CHMLS and the wider University
  • To ensure that the principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) are embedded in all aspects of the TBL process, including TBL content, assessment and team formation processes.

You will be based on the campus of Brunel University, London in Uxbridge.

This post represents a significant opportunity for a talented individual who has the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, a passion for education and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced environment.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 26th October 2022 (Midnight)
