The University of Manchester is seeking to appoint an individual with a track record of building and leading collaborative relationships and professional networks, expertise in a domain ideally related to artificial intelligence, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and experience in managing high-performing teams, to take up the role of Translational Research Manager for AI.
The University is making a strategic investment in fundamental AI research and translation, to complement its existing strengths in AI applications across several prominent research fields and facilitate high-profile collaboration opportunities for the outcomes of fundamental AI research. We are one of the most active partners of the national Alan Turing Institute, hosting 27 Turing Fellows, and Fellows of the European Laboratory of Learning and Intelligent Systems ELLIS in the new ELLIS Unit Manchester. Driven by its ambition is to establish a leading AI centre at the cross section of these opportunities, the University has recently launched a Centre for AI Fundamentals and has already started recruiting academics to be part of it.
The Translational Research Manager will play a strategic and leading role to develop and deliver the translation and partnership strategies of the AI Centre, ELLIS and relevant initiatives, as well as creating their long-term sustainable business plans. The post holder will also work closely with the Christabel Pankhurst Institute for Health Technology Research and Innovation - an initiative to promote needs-led health technology research and innovation.
This role will be based within the Research Development and Innovation team in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The team consists of the Faculty’s Business Engagement, Research Development and Impact, and Internationalisation teams. The post-holder will also work closely with the wider functional team of Business Engagement & Knowledge Exchange across the University.
