Location: Bishops Square, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield

There are two positions available to join the University’s Library and Computing Services SBU as an Applications and Development Consultant; one two year fixed term contract and one permanent contract.

Main duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for the planning, design, development / configuration, implementation, support and management of enterprise applications and software solutions to meet University 24/7 service requirements, agreed efficiency and security arrangements. You will also undertake a key responsibility and provide backup cover across the team, such as for selected enterprise applications, software solutions and services including effective liaison with contracted external suppliers where applicable. Responsibility will also include the translation of user requirements provided by business areas, Business Analysts, Information Managers, stakeholders and working groups, into technical design and documentation. Other duties will include assisting with the analysis, evaluation and procurement of software solutions and services and providing specialist advice on current and potential future developments, policy and forward planning.

Skills and experience required

You will have substantial proven practical expertise and experience at an appropriate level of responsibility in development and configuration of enterprise level software solutions delivering services in a large enterprise networked environment to a large diverse population of clients. You will also have proven experience of translating business requirements into technical design and efficient on-line processes and services.

Practical IT skills and familiarity with common computing applications is essential as well as good communication (oral and written), interpersonal, persuasion and negotiating skills. The ability to prioritise, exercise good time management and organisational skills and to meet deadlines is also a key requirement of this role.

Qualifications require

You will hold a minimum of a Degree or equivalent level qualification or equivalent proven experience as well as a qualification in computing at professional level or equivalent expertise and experience.
