UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2

Applications are invited for a Fixed-term post (until 31 May 2025) of a **UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Business.

This position is part of a 3-year Horizon Europe funded project called VECTOR.

About VECTOR

Europe set out its goals for decarbonization in the EU Green Deal. Achieving these targets will require more responsible use of, and a sharp increase in, the supply of critical raw materials.  To meet its demand in raw materials, the EU is currently reliant on imports and is therefore vulnerable to changes in the geopolitical landscape and supply chain interruptions. Complex social, environmental, and technical challenges need to be understood to explore the potential domestic sourcing of metals and minerals in the EU. The VECTOR project seeks to explore these challenges by bringing geosciences and social sciences together. VECTOR seeks to develop human-centred solutions for a socially acceptable, responsible, and sustainable supply of critical raw materials in Europe and thus contribute to achieving the Green Deal.

About the role

We are looking for an Post-Doctoral Research fellow who is responsible for research on the social acceptance of critical raw materials in the context of Europe’s Green Deal. The project will focus on collecting and analysing quantitative data from selected regions in Europe to elucidate the factors that affect how people make decisions about balancing resource development and the EU Green Deal. It is expected that primary data will be collected, anaysed and written up for academic publication. The role also requires close collaboration within the same Work Packages and contribute to data integration across the wider project.

This is an advanced academic research role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competences, on the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination, the development of funding proposals, and the supervision and mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:

• The work will be carried out in the Work Package “Social Acceptance of Critical Raw Materials” and is aimed at developing a conceptual framework of how the need for Critical Raw Materials are assessed in the context of Europe’s Green Deal.
• Conduct primary empirical research.
• Collaborate with other subtasks in the Work Package and across the consortium where relevant.

Interviews are expected to take place in the third week of January 2023

Salary Range: € 48,813  - € 53,091  per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
