The Brunel Innovation Centre (BIC) is a university research Centre located at TWI’s facilities in Cambridge. BIC was established to carry out research and development in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, Digital Twin and Advanced Image processing in several applications related to manufacturing, processing, healthcare, agriculture, asset management and construction. BIC has a portfolio of projects funded by the European Commission and Innovate UK to work with companies across Europe that are of industrial nature, in the sectors including transport, manufacturing and energy, and are looking to expand the team with a Research Fellow II.

The candidate should have extensive experience in developing advanced machine learning algorithms for either industrial or medical applications. The candidate should have a track record of successfully applying machine learning algorithms to real problems as part of research or industrial projects to TRL6. The post will also involve Developing, debugging and validating codes and software using C/C++, C# MATLAB, OpenCV and Python.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A PhD in qualification in a numeric discipline such as Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Signal Processing or related disciplines.
  • Good mathematical, algorithmic and software development skills.
  • Strong proficiency in programming (OpenCV, Python, C, C++, C# and MATLAB).
  • A track record of successfully applying machine learning for industrial and research projects.
  • Experience developing, optimising and validating Artificial Intelligence models for condition and structural health monitoring or for process/system performance modelling or similar applications.
  • Good communication and presentation skills and the ability to draft research papers for publication in academic journals and/or combination of industrial experience and/or training.
  • A high level of initiative and an ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Team-player and willingness to work on different projects.
  • Experience/willingness to mentor/supervise students and junior staff.
  • Excellent analytical capability.
