Research Fellow to join the Big Data in Health Group

About us

The Big Data in Health group at the University of Southampton is based in the Primary Care Research Centre. We aim to understand patterns, trends, and associations of diseases to inform preventive action in the UK and international contexts. Our group comprises a diverse, multidisciplinary team conducting high-quality, innovative research that addresses complex health and social care challenges of the 21st century. We employ traditional statistical and epidemiological methods, cutting-edge artificial intelligence algorithms, and qualitative research to provide a deeper understanding, insights, and applications. 

About the role 

In this role, you will join a successful interdisciplinary and mixed-methods team with extensive qualitative and quantitative expertise that conducts research to support people with multiple long-term conditions. The post holder will already be working in the field of multimorbidity. They will have good organisational and administrative skills. They will have excellent writing skills and be able to work independently to draft high-quality academic research papers and convey methodological results of findings through presentations using interactive visualisations. This position is a unique opportunity to join an experienced, fast-paced and high-output research group, working closely with our supportive team to help deliver School for Primary Care Research (SPCR), National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) funded projects in populations with multiple long-term conditions.

The post is offered full-time for 6 months and will be available starting in June/July. The salary for this position will be level 4.

About you

You will be educated to postgraduate degree level and must have an established track record of conducting MLTC research, systematic reviews, and qualitative analyses. You will specialise in qualitative methods and have extensive experience in creating search terms, conducting searches across a wide variety of search engines, and conducting narrative synthesis.  We welcome applications from researchers with a strong track record in MLTC and at least some knowledge of AI-enabled digital health tools, along with proven experience leading and managing research teams, including supervising staff, mentoring, and professional development.

You will be able to work to tight deadlines, manage your time independently, be flexible to accommodate project demands and responsive to requests from line managers and other colleagues. You will possess excellent organisational and inter-personal skills and high professional standards.

Applicants for this position will have completed a relevant PhD or will be near completion at the time of the interview.
