With an annual turnover of £480 million, including £102 million for research, Liverpool is the original ‘redbrick’ University and a member of the prestigious Russell Group, which comprises the leading research Universities in the UK.
The University is entering an exciting new era as we strive to maintain and enhance our dynamic reputation and performance in a rapidly evolving higher education environment. In order to help us achieve our ambitions, we are seeking to appoint a Vice-Dean (Postgraduate, International, Intercalation) for the School of Medicine.
Applications are invited from experienced Clinicians and Clinical Academics with significant interest in medical education, to support the Dean of the School in providing strategic leadership and management of a complex and diverse workforce responsible for the delivery of medical education.
The successful candidate will have extensive skills, knowledge and experience of medical education, and experience of leadership and management within the academic environment. They will have significant experience of managing an academic programme, university approval procedures, assessment, quality and governance and of personally creating and delivering programmes and modules at University level in the UK. They will have demonstrable experience of leading change and effectively managing individuals, engaging stakeholders and of working with international partners. They will have a working understanding of the risks and regulator requirements related to clinical training. They will also be able to evidence a track record of commitment and expertise to teaching and learning and pedagogic research.
The School of Medicine has both Undergraduate and Postgraduate activity. This role will relate to both aspects, but with a primary focus on the strategic development and operational delivery of a portfolio of postgraduate courses and international school activity.
This leadership role will be held as part of a substantive T&S academic contract. The leadership role itself is expected to be held for a period of five years, potentially renewable. PAs for research and clinical activity can be discussed as part of the interview process. A Chair level post will be considered for a candidate who can demonstrate the correct skills and experience.
The successful applicant will join a vibrant team within an innovative University, that is passionate about inspiring people to learn and achieve, that celebrates individuality and ingenuity, energy and enterprise, and is committed to enhancing both the student experience and our research excellence.
