Job description

The opportunity

You will develop and support the existing Stroke Hub Wales network of collaborators seeking to improve NHS Wales stroke care via an increase in the quality and quantity of stroke research, innovation and education undertaken in Wales. You will build on the expertise of individual group members and help to establish collaborative practices. You will coordinate people and provide advice on setting up, running and monitoring research projects between Higher Education and NHS/Healthcare partners.

As our Stroke Research and Innovation Manager, you will:

  • Manage the development and co-ordination of activities of the Stoke Hub Wales Stroke Advisory Group, working with research staff based in research centres throughout Wales and with external funding bodies (including Stroke Association, British Heart Foundation, HCRW, etc). 
  • Collaborate with partner institutions and individual researchers to develop new and existing research centres to form a coherent Welsh Stroke Academic Health Network, ensuring clear lines of communication.
  • Support development of new research and innovation projects and early career researchers in stroke prevention, acute care and rehabilitation.
  • Manage and maintain budgets assigned to research groups and projects operating in collaboration with SHW.
  • Engage with and maintain awareness of funding body priorities and proactively disseminate this information to researchers and research groups in the SHW Network.
  • Set up and maintain systems to monitor research, innovation and education performance across SHW.
  • Present research outcomes at management meetings, research conferences and seminars at national and international level.
  • Organise and manage on-line and in person events including Stroke Symposia and the SHW Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) group.

What we are looking for

We seek a vibrant, enthusiastic individual with effective interpersonal and presentation skills to manage the portfolio of activities supported by Stoke Hub Wales. The successful individual will have:

  • Master’s degree in a health / public health related area.
  • An understanding of ethical processes as they apply to research in clinical science.
  • Knowledge of the grant application process and appropriate funding sources for clinical research.
  • Knowledge of public health.
  • Ability to develop an effective and coherent research strategy suitable for a network of research groups operating from various different locations.
  • Effective interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize own workload.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to use MS office for data collation, manipulation, presentations and reporting.
  • Ability to use initiative and creativity to solve problems related to the project.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with national and international partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with professionals internal and external to the University.
  • Ability to support the development of research objectives, projects or proposals.
  • Extensive experience in clinical research. 
  • Coordination of people and the setting up, running and monitoring of research projects.
  • Experience of presenting findings orally and in report form.
  • Experience of managing data.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to locations across Wales and other areas of the U.K. to support and promote the activities of Stroke Hub Wales.
