Overview of the role:
We are looking to recruit three enthusiastic and student-centred Academic and Study Skills Lecturers to provide a range of support activities in-person on campus and digitally via MS Teams. The successful candidates will support the Programme Leader (English and Academic Skills) to deliver 1-1 sessions, small group workshops, digital webinars and in-class sessions. They will also help to develop engaging resources that enhance students’ academic and study skills. Specific responsibilities will be agreed in line with the successful candidates’ skillset and experience.
We know our work will be at its best if it is created by people with a range of backgrounds and experiences. We are keen to interview people who will add diversity to our team. We are particularly looking for individuals with experience of some or all of the following areas:
- English for Academic Purposes
- Numeracy and mathematics
- Supporting students with learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia)
- Digital and essential IT skills
- Working with adults from widening access / international backgrounds
Regent College is proud to cater to students’ needs, offering sessions during the day and at alternative times, such as evenings and weekends. We would like to appoint lecturers who would be interested in working in the evenings and weekends too (rota). We are also happy to consider applicants who wish to work part-time or job share, subject to business requirements.
Main responsibilities:
- Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Providing 1-1 guidance and support to diverse students and keeping track of students’ engagement and progress.
- Planning and delivering high-quality academic skills workshops (in-person and digitally).
- Supporting the Programme Leader (English and Academic Skills) to create resources and support materials for students and academics.
- Liaising with academics and other members of staff, where necessary, to ensure students receive appropriate on-going academic skills support.
- Collaborating with other teams at Regent (e.g. Enrichment, Wellbeing, Inclusion) to support activities that enhance students’ experience, development, and success.
- Carrying out any other responsibilities as reasonably required by senior management.
Knowledge and skills:
- You will need to demonstrate:
- A thorough understanding of the academic skills needed for success in higher education.
- Awareness of how mature students learn, and the challenges they face.
- A proven ability to deliver a range of support activities, in-person and digitally
- Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Good IT skills (MS Teams / Outlook / Word / PPT)
- Strong organisation, attention to detail, and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
- A desire to work collaboratively and foster positive relations with staff at all levels.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility and a calm approach under pressure.
- A commitment to continuous professional development.
Qualifications:
- Degree qualified or equivalent teaching qualification (essential)
- Relevant teaching, training, or tutoring qualifications in one or more of the following areas (essential)
- academic and study skills
- English for academic purposes (EAP)
- teaching English as an additional language
- numeracy and/or digital skills development
- supporting students with specific learning needs (e.g., dyslexia)
