We would like to recruit a candidate who shares these research and knowledge exchange ambitions and can contribute to the research culture at Solent, joining our active research community. In your role, you will be supported to be involved in research, knowledge exchange and scholarly activity.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Interior Design Decoration - Textiles (part time 0.5 FTE)

The salary range provided is the full-time equivalent salary range.

The BA (Hons) Interior Design Decoration course provides students with the skills required to meet the changing and challenging demands of the interior design industry. This course enables students to understand the creative forces that move the boundaries of interior design, decoration and styling in order to equip them with the knowledge of current and relevant market trends.

The course team now require an additional lecturer to join the team with a skill base in Textile’s design and Digital Surface Pattern, with knowledge of fashioning the interior, decorative styling and forecasting. Additional knowledge of historical and contemporary studies relating to interiors, art and textiles would be advantageous.

Experience of the interior design decoration industry, new technologies and an understanding of the technological processes and applications of materials and fabrics are essential. It is essential that the candidate demonstrates expertise in design, colour, style and trends with the ability to translate design into various product applications. We are looking for an experienced individual who has the practical skills, knowledge and experience to work with our students to expand their knowledge and offer fresh insight and experience into how surface design can be applied to both hard and soft materials to generate creative new ideas.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required

Essential

  • Proficient use of Photoshop and Illustrator packages.
  • Understanding of technical design language.
  • Experience of creating and adapting designs to successfully execute brief.
  • Highly developed prioritization skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects.

Desirable

  • Experience of working or studying within textile industry.
  • Experience of working with production techniques.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of current and future trends.
