About us

We are a young, international department; our working language is English. We study the fascinating ability of planarians to regenerate complete animals from tissue pieces and conduct worldwide expeditions to study the evolution of regenerative abilities. Our inter­disciplinary approach encompasses next-generation sequencing techniques (RNA-Seq, scSEQ, ATAC-seq, ChIP-Seq, Hi-C and long-read sequencing). We assemble, annotate, and mine genomes for regenerative mechanisms, scaling phenomena and other intriguing quirks of planarian biology.

The position

You support department members in the analysis / mining of NGS data, maintain departmental analysis pipelines / databases, and develop / integrate new analysis tools. You interface with local computational service providers and closely collaborate with department members and external partners. The pursuit of personal research interests is possible and encouraged, including the mentoring of Masters / PhD students.

Your Profile

  • Master or PhD degree in a relevant area, e.g., bioinformatics, computational biology, computer sciences, or biology
  • extensive experience and track record in one or more of the following: RNA-Seq and differential expression analysis, single-cell seq, ChIP- or ATAC-seq, genome assembly and annotation, comparative genomics
  • hands-on experience with at least 3 of the following: UCSC genome browser, Snakemake, Bioconductor packages, GATK, PAML, R, eLabJournal
  • experience with linux servers, high-performance computing, and/or cluster management
  • passion for big-data analysis and ongoing developments in the field
  • self-motivation, organizational talent, and ability to multi-task / prioritize multiple projects
  • collaborative team spirit

The position should be filled asap; the exact start date is flexible. Payment and benefits are based on the TVöD (wage agreement for public service personnel) guidelines. Positions are initially limited to two years with a possibility of extension.
