Assistant Director (Education and Students Transformation)

Cardiff University

Reimagine education

If you’ve a passion for education and student experience, alongside a reputation for delivering high-quality transformation – this is for you. As Assistant Director (Education and Students Transformation) at Cardiff University, you’ll drive our Way Forward 2018-2023: Education and Students Sub-Strategy. Your focus? To support the University in creating an educationally outstanding and consistently high-quality student experience.

Everything you need is here. The prestige of a Russell Group university. An ongoing £600m campus upgrade – the biggest for a generation. And a diverse community of 30,000+ students, including 7,900 from more than 130 countries.

The role
Our entire Education and Student Experience Portfolio will be your responsibility – with an initial £8m budget that’s expected to grow at speed over the coming years.

With a significant team around you, we’ll ask you to develop and deliver a road map of projects aligned to our strategic KPIs. As well as overseeing planning, resourcing financing and benefit delivery; you’ll use your strategic influencing skills to gain buy-in from stakeholders, and support the Pro-Vice Chancellor in sponsoring and leading the overall Portfolio.

The remit requires great communication skills too: whether coordinating dashboards for Steering Boards, reports for the Professional Services Board, University Executive Board and Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW).

You’ll have the chance to get involved in other education-themed programmes, including HESA Data Futures. And throughout, you’ll enjoy close support from our Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) Education and Student Experience, Director of the Cardiff Learning and Teaching Academy, and the Academic Registrar.

About you
A relevant first degree or professional qualification is essential. But it’s your hugely impressive change management experience that will mark you out. This is a challenge for a strategic powerhouse used to inspiring major transformational programmes, and expertly handling projects with differing areas of scope, at various stages of their lifecycle.

In terms of stakeholder management, political nous will be crucial. Equally, you’ll have the technical ability to quickly understand the issues, the clarity of thought to define the priorities and gravitas to inspire colleagues and partners across the University community to champion the cause. Higher Education experience is desirable but isn’t a must.

Dynamic, friendly, affordable Cardiff

A thriving and attractive city widely recognised as an outstanding place to live, work and study; Cardiff caters to all tastes. Expect all the excitement of a global city, combined with easy access to the peace and tranquillity of the nearby coast and countryside.
