The Department of Pathology is looking for a highly motivated individual to provide technical support in the practical teaching classroom, including assisting students in the department.
Working hours will be 08.00-16.30 Monday to Friday.
You will be required to work for approximately 38 weeks in the year (exclusive of paid leave) in three periods slightly exceeding the University full terms.
The Department of Pathology runs Part IB practical laboratory classes for over 500 Medical, Veterinary and Natural Sciences students. The role holder will work as part of a team to support course organisers in preparation and running of the classes and examinations in Microbiology, Virology, Histopathology, Immunology and Parasitology. The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment, replenishing consumables used during teaching sessions and the classroom set up. The role holder will also assist in the preparation and editing of class information and method sheets for distribution to students and maintain tissue specimens and bacterial cultures.
The successful candidate will be able to think clearly and quickly when working under pressure, have the confidence to work on their own initiative to a high level of accuracy, have excellent communication and computer skills, and have the ability to deal with a wide range of people at all levels. Experience in using audio-visual equipment would be beneficial, and experience of microbiological techniques, including bacterial culture and safe handling of microorganisms, is desirable.
Candidates will have 3-4 GCSEs including Biology and Maths (grades A - C) or, BTEC First Certificate in Applied Science or, other relevant qualification in a science subject, along with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
Interviews will be held week commencing 13th February 2023.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
