‘Manchester’s DNA’ is an ambitious and unique collaboration between the University of Manchester and Manchester UNESCO City of Literature (MCOL). The partnership will create workshops and public events that enable communities across Manchester to reflect upon genetic identity, migration, place and public memory.

In particular, the ‘Manchester’s DNA’ project will deliver events in partnership with MCOL and partners across Manchester. The project will act as an umbrella organisation, devolving individual event organisation to partners and co-producing.

We seek a Research Associate to work on the project for 11 months. This is a complex role and essential to the success of the project.

We want a creative thinker and doer who can deliver an inspiring, diverse, surprising and popular programme of events, activities and community engagement. We want someone with experience of commissioning and supporting artists and writers at all career stages and helping them to work in non-traditional spaces and community settings. We want someone who is self-motivated and can manage a heavy and varied workload. We want an exceptional communicator with an open, confident and kind manner who can work across multiple partners and host venues with ease. We want someone who can support and inspire partners in their own programming practice and is a capable trainer. We will someone who can welcome, engage and enthuse a diverse range of people and partners. A good knowledge of Greater Manchester’s cultural and community landscape would be advantageous.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
