Full-time/Part-time (minimum 30 hours)

You will be responsible for supporting and contributing to the rigorous and complex data analysis of NERC’s grant funding investments, partnerships and community engagements that inform strategic and operational decision-making across NERC. This role is fundamental in supporting the oversight, development and delivery of management information and business analytics across the breadth of the NERC-funded portfolio. The role is responsible for the generation, analysis and visualisation of NERC’s funding portfolio to enable effective, informed decision-making across the organisation. The role will also be responsible for ensuring clear integration across NERC with existing business programme management cycles and planning approaches.

Primary tasks

  • Support the development of complex and detailed analyses based on large volumes of data with respect to NERC’s funding streams, grant funding investments, partnerships, and community engagements, leading to accurate and timely management information (MI) to support strategic decision-making;
  • Create, develop, and maintain specific management information (MI) resources that support strategic and operational planning across NERC Head office and draw on the funded NERC grant portfolio
  • Oversee and manage the provision of accurate and timely briefing material on the portfolio for HEI (Higher Education Institution) engagements of the Executive Leadership team
  • Guided by the Business Analytics Lead, provide flexible analytics support, often working to tight deadlines, to Subject/Thematic Matter Expert colleagues and ensure that quality assurance is met in translating and communicating evidence-based information effectively in a range of areas
  • Support the management of the NERC Tableau server dataset providing technical expertise and training to other teams in NERC working with management information including the use of Alteryx, Tableau and more basic Excel-based software tools
  • Develop and manage the operations of the Business Management SharePoint MI and Insights portal to ensure that all information requests are/have been recorded and that MI outputs and working files are easily accessible whilst ensuring compliance with relevant data sharing and data protection policies
  • Undertake ad-hoc analysis as required and directed by the Business Analytics Leads and Data Steward for NERC.

Secondary tasks

  • Engage at a UKRI level to share good practice and develop a consistent approach to MI.
  • Support process change activities across NERC with respect to data analytics and business process.
  • Use Lean and continuous improvement principles to optimise business process, specifically to capture data to develop and generate operational performance indicators.
  • Keep abreast of changes and opportunities with new business intelligence and management information (MI) tools, making recommendations to improve and develop NERC’s MI capability.

Essential criteria:

  • You have sound numeric skills, including the ability to independently prepare data that can be used as evidence to support decisions
  • You have the ability to collect reporting requirements from a variety of stakeholders before producing data reports that meet the needs of the stakeholder
  • You have advanced expertise in Excel and experience or working knowledge of SQL, Alteryx, and Data Visualisation tools including Tableau
  • You have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads
  • You have strong attention to detail and can produce clear, replicable data reports
