Some more information regarding the studentship project
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic post-graduate to conduct three years of funded doctoral studies that determines the prevalence and characteristics of chronic pain and treatment outcomes amongst ethnic minority groups within the UK. We specifically encourage candidates to apply who are from ethnic minority groups within the UK population.
Little is known about chronic pain in UK adult minority ethnic populations. This is an under researched yet vital field as we need to better understand healthcare disparities in access and outcomes for ethnic minority groups.
You will be supported by a supervisory team of internationally recognised academics in the field of pain, clinical outcomes, and epidemiology. Expert supervision will assist you to manage and analyse large datasets in determining the prevalence of chronic pain in ethnic minority groups within the UK adult population. Working together with National Chronic Pain Services at the Royal United Hospitals NHS Trust, Bath will assist in identifying treatment outcomes of ethnic minority groups accessing secondary and tertiary chronic pain services. This clinical academic collaboration will support you in meeting the final objective of determining factors (social, demographic, psychological and clinical presentation) that are associated with treatment outcomes of ethnic minority groups attending chronic pain services.
The success candidate will have experience of managing and analysing large digital datasets. Masters in a health-related subject is essential. There will be opportunities for developing health research knowledge and skills via the UWE PhD programme and external training in epidemiological methodology.
