Background
The Institute of Medical Sciences, based at the Medway campus represents a centre of excellence for postgraduate medical courses, medical education, a regional simulation and human factors project and scientific research. It is home to the Stem Cell Research and Advanced Bio Engineering Laboratory (SCRABEL) where the focus of its works is in innovative research that is determined by clinical need. The Institute delivers an MCh in Surgery with 7 pathways (Regenerative Orthopaedics and Reconstruction / Otorhinolaryngology / Urology / Ophthalmology / Obstetrics and Gynaecology / Aesthetic Facial Surgery / Minimally Invasive Facial Aesthetics). It also delivers an MSc in Physician Associate Studies and works extensively with primary care colleagues
The Role
The main purpose of the role will be to provide clinical leadership and academic support to the Course Director of the MCh in Surgery to ensure the high-quality delivery of the Regenerative Orthopaedics and Reconstruction pathway. The role will involve teaching, course/module organisation and supervision of students. The post holder will work alongside the MCh in Surgery Course Director and report to the Director of the IMS.
The Person
You will be an established national and international educationalist/researcher in the field of regenerative orthopaedics and reconstruction and be able to dedicate 0.1 FTE to this post.
This is a challenging and exciting role for a Consultant who has significant experience within regenerative orthopaedics and reconstruction, research, science and education. The role requires an innovative and forward thinking clinician in the field of post graduate medicine. This is an appointment for a professorial post therefore the applicant must meet the criteria for the award of a full professorship of Canterbury Christ Church University and be medically qualified. However, candidates who do not meet the criteria for the post of Professor will be considered for the post of Reader where sufficient evidence of meeting the appropriate criteria is demonstrated.
