Applications are invited for a fixed-term IOI Postdoctoral Research Associate in Organic Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry, to work under the supervision of Professor Christopher Schofield until 31 December 2025
The position is based at the new INEOS Oxford Institute for AMR Research IOI, at the Chemistry Research Laboratory, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TA.
The overall project aims to combat antimicrobial resistance via a multidisciplinary approach. The successful candidate will complement the medicinal chemistry, microbiology and biochemical teams with protein crystallography expertise. The postholder will generate key structural and biophysical data to support the design of small molecule inhibitors with particular focus on protein production and crystallisation, solving protein-ligand structures, fragment screening (XChem), PDB deposition and biophysical techniques including SPR, DSF and NMR.
Applicants must hold a PhD in in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or in Chemistry, (or be close to completion) prior to taking up your appointment. The research requires extensive expertise in organic synthesis, in particular of natural product synthesis and / or modern synthetic methods. You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.
The IOI’s interdisciplinary research programme involves national and international collaborators. We are a vibrant, enthusiastic, innovative and strategic enterprise with an internationally leading position to make a real difference in combatting antimicrobial resistance globally and changing international policy. We contribute significantly to basic knowledge of antimicrobial resistance and apply research methods to identify new antibiotics and explore new potential antimicrobial agents. We have a world-class track record of success and a reputation for a can-do attitude to tackling challenging goals. At the heart of our approach is a deep commitment to the training and career development of our staff and students
