The successful candidate will be responsible for the set-up, co-ordination and delivery of the ThinkCancer! Phase III randomised controlled trial (RCT). ThinkCancer! is a pragmatic RCT of a novel behavioural intervention for primary care teams to promote earlier cancer diagnosis, with embedded process and economic evaluation. This is a study jointly funded by Cancer Research Wales and North-West Cancer Research being led by Professor Clare Wilkinson (Professor of General Practice and director of NWCPCR, School of Health Sciences, Bangor University). The study will take place over a 45 month period.
The Trial Manager will co-ordinate, manage and oversee this trial to ensure its continued successful delivery and completion. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of managing a research study across multiple sites and have extensive experience of being involved with clinical trials. The successful candidate should have a good knowledge of research governance and experience of working with colleagues in Research and Development and external Research Ethics Committees. Experience with working across stakeholder groups including Patient and Public Involvement representatives is key to the role. The successful candidate should demonstrate a thorough understanding of trial processes including study set up, recruitment, data collection and follow up. Experience of trials involving cancer diagnosis or in the field of primary care is highly desirable. Excellent communication and presentation skills, together with the ability to organise and motivate others are essential. The post-holder will need to be self-motivated, adaptable, a proactive problem-solver, and be able to work effectively in the context of change. Excellent interpersonal skills are required, as is the ability to work to high standards across a variety of tasks with constant regard to scientific and regulatory requirements. They will demonstrate leadership when faced with challenges and will provide operational management in coordination and delivery of the project.
The successful candidate will possess a good first degree, post graduate degree, PhD or clinical doctorate in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline (e.g. psychology, health, social care, medicine) and/or equivalent experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible and this post is available until 31st August, 2026.
