Head of Digital Strategic Initiatives - AD2465NB

University of St Andrews - Office of the Principal

Location: St Andrews
Salary: £54,949 to £61,823 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 20th January 2023
Closes: 6th February 2023
Job Ref: 378185

Start Date: 1 March 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter Duration of Post: 3 years fixed term (or as a 2 year secondment)

The Head of Digital Strategic Initiatives will develop, lead and implement strategic priorities, which are transformative to existing practice in the University. The successful candidate will be tasked with assisting the Vice-Principal (Digital) to further Digital Education and Digital Research at St Andrews, and in the first instance to lead on the development and delivery of digital short courses and executive education.

This non-traditional provision will reach a global audience and aims to generate £10m+/annum income to the University through the creation of a freestanding digital educational enterprise. This role will include developing a clear model for the development and delivery of educational content to newly identified markets. Under the direction of the VP Digital and the Quaestor, this work will also include the setting of achievable commercial goals and establishing and negotiating viable partnerships with external industry partners (where appropriate).

The successful candidate will be expected to watch emerging market trends and to ensure the Digital Education offer reflects the add-on value of St Andrews and is set apart from those operating at the generic end of the market. You will also take on responsibility for the development and implementation of additional short-term projects, as directed by the VP Digital, including working closely with professional service units to further Digital Research at St Andrews.

Candidates should have a relevant degree and a qualification/certification in business analysis, strategic planning, business planning, enterprise or entrepreneurship or equivalent professional experience.

This role is offered as a three-year fixed-term post, or a two-year secondment, in the first instance, but it is anticipated that as the University’s Digital Education and Research portfolio develops, new roles will emerge.

Further information and informal enquiries may be directed Professor Monique MacKenzie, Vice Principal (Digital Education, Research and Environment) email: vpdigital@st-andrews.ac.uk, Tel: 01334 461836.

Applications are particularly welcome from people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in professional posts at the University.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience.  We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter, Race Charters and Stonewall). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network. This post will be primarily based at the Eden Campus at Guardbridge, a state-of-the-art working environment for professional services units.
