The role
In this role you will work at the interface of science and policy, enabling UoBs leading research to inform policy solutions to the most pressing societal challenges.
The PolicyBristol team is an expert and experienced policy engagement team working across the University, and you will lead this talented and enthusiastic team with responsibility for its day-to-day operations. You will also support the Head of Policy Engagement in setting the strategic direction for the University’s policy engagement, and in learning from and sharing good practice across the sector.
What will you be doing?
You will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of PolicyBristol, including ensuring consistency in the quality of service provided across faculties, whilst actively managing the overall workflow of the PB Associates. You will lead work to determine the policy engagement training and development needs for the University, review existing provision, and lead the delivery of a programme of training and capacity building to meet these institutional needs. You will work with the Head of Policy Engagement to showcase and raise the profile of the team’s work and expertise internally and externally, including a regular schedule of ‘PolicyBristol’ led visits and events.
You should apply if
You will need a strong understanding of the structure and processes of UK government and parliament, ideally gained through first-hand experience in a policy-related role; to understand the research cycle within HEIs; and have significant experience of the methods and approaches to academic policy engagement.
You will have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to successfully navigate both the academic and political worlds to bring people of all levels of seniority together.
Above all, you will be an inclusive, supportive and enabling manager of the PolicyBristol team, able to draw on your own experience whilst developing the capabilities of the team.
