The Opportunity:

We have an opportunity to join the team while one of our nurses moves to support our welfare team for 12 months. We welcome all enthusiastic candidates to apply as we have a full training programme for all new team members where you will work alongside experienced staff while you learn the ropes.

The Hospital for Small Animals is located just 8 miles south of Edinburgh city centre, it is set in a stunning location with onsite gardens and idyllic walks just minutes away.

General RVN posts are ideal for anyone interested in developing their nursing careers within a state of the art referral hospital. We will provide hands on training across the hospital by working within a team of specialist clinicians and RVNs where you will be involved in a range of interesting and inspiring cases across all areas. Our nurses provide support in our canine and feline wards, isolation units, intermediate care ward, emergency and critical care department, exotics & wildlife, 1st opinion general practice, theatre suites, or within one of our specialist services.

  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Dick Vet Rabbit and Exotic Practice
  • Emergency & Critical Care
  • The Feline Clinic
  • The Internal Medicine Service
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery
  • Ophthalmology Service
  • Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Soft Tissue Surgery
  • REPAIR Centre
  • The Riddell-Swan Veterinary Cancer Centre

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Must be an RCVS registered veterinary nurse (RVN)
  • Excellent organisational and communications skills are essential
  • Keen dedication to teaching the next generation of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses is a must.

  • We have a generous external CPD allowance of £800 per annum, paid CPD days and abundant free internal CPD for clinical staff.    
  • Our nurses cover one weekend shift in 4 weeks, paid as overtime or Time Off In Lieu if preferred. No additional on call or out of hours is required, however additional shift cover opportunities will available, accruing paid overtime for additional hours worked.
  • Holiday entitlement 36 days + 4 days public holiday (pro rata)
