The role
The School for Policy Studies wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Criminology. The successful candidate will join an ambitious and collegial School that pushes forward intellectual debates and real-world solutions to a range of policy and social dilemmas within an interdisciplinary environment. They will contribute to teaching primarily on our undergraduate programme in Criminology, and will enhance our research profile in this area.
The School has an exceptional reputation for teaching, research and public engagement. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) over 95% of research in social work and social policy was rated world-leading or internationally excellent (Social Work and Social Policy). In the QS World Rankings we are consistently ranked in the top 30 worldwide and top ten in the UK. Our undergraduate programmes are consistently top rated in national league tables. Our postgraduate programmes attract students from across the globe, and have a strong global, comparative and international component.
What will you be doing?
The post holder will be involved in teaching at all levels – but especially on the BSc in Criminology, contribute to curriculum development, and act as a personal tutor to undergraduate and/or postgraduate students.
The successful candidate will pursue high quality research and publications, make applications for external research funding and engage in research impact activities.
Collegiality is central to the functioning of the School and we wish to recruit an individual who is willing to actively contribute to the administration and development of the School as a whole.

You should apply if you have expertise in criminology and experience of delivering high quality learning experiences in a higher education context. You should apply if you have an ability and interest in teaching a new first year compulsory unit (‘Harmful Societies’) on the BSc Criminology, and are willing contribute to other teaching areas relating to theory, skills and methods.
The post is open to applicants with expertise in any aspect of criminology, but we would particularly welcome applicants with interests in any of the following: social harm; political economy; inequality; social justice; mixed methods or quantitative methods.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work across sub-disciplinary areas and engage with research developments across the School and wider University.
