An exciting opportunity for a part-time (0.4wte) maternity leave cover for 8 months has arisen to join our speech and language  team in the department of Health Professions at Manchester Metropolitan University.

The post holder would be expected to deliver teaching on our BSc and MSc pre-registration programmes, support students' clinical development and make a contribution to our allied health research and specifically in speech and language therapy, increasing our 3* and 4* output and our international reputation in this area.

The Faculty of Health and Education is located in the purpose-built Brooks and in the Cavendish building, with first-class facilities for research and teaching in our cognate disciplines. These include the ICON Unit supporting speech & language therapy education, research and partnership working, purpose-built nutrition and dietetics laboratories, sensory labs, a clinical simulation suite and video observation facilities, and a physiotherapy and wellbeing clinic (The Manchester Movement Unit).

In addition, there are outstanding opportunities for developing clinical and research collaborations with physiotherapy, dietetics, nutrition, nursing and psychology through our Research Centre in Health, Psychology and Communities and with colleagues in Healthcare Science and Exercise and Sport Science. Our research networks are local, national and international and include clinical and research colleagues with an interest in speech, language and communication disorders.

We are looking for:

  • a qualifying degree in speech and language therapy,
  • a minimum of a Master's degree or equivalent CPD in a relevant discipline area
  • significant professional, clinical and research experience in speech and language therapy or communication disabilities
  • experience of supporting and teaching SLT learners in practice or University setting
  • HCPC registration and membership of RCSLT.

A secondment arrangement with current employers can be considered.

You will also receive an additional discretionary payment of 2% per annum, which is in recognition of staff contribution to the University's achievements and which will be added to your base salary each month until 31st July 2023.
