The role
The Smart Internet Lab is a world-leading research facility specialising in the application of advanced hardware and software technologies, targeting the future optical networks for Internet of Things (IoT), data centres, grid/cloud-based applications, cellular networks, and distributed technologies. The lab is equipped with world-class facilities, including state-of-the-art optical transmissions, cellular testbeds, and software-defined network experimental platforms.
The Smart Internet Lab Technician will support the day to day running of the research lab space. The post holder will carry out technical support within a research laboratory, large-scale testbed spanning across Bristol city centre, various hosting sites, and large portfolio of national and international projects. The role will include helping to build and implement a wide range of electronic modules, communications hardware, software and related testbeds to assist postgraduate students, Research Associates and academic staff as well as managing experimenters’ access to the Smart Internet Lab.
What will you be doing?
Provision of technician support for research and experimentation activities within a facility, laboratory, or a designated suite of laboratories. Working with key stakeholders, keeping accurate records of methods and outcomes relating to the laboratory equipment used for research & experiments. Keeping record of technician tasks with timelines and clear delivery dates. Operating, servicing, maintenance, and calibration of specialist equipment. Plan, manage and prioritise own workload while responding to the changing priorities and needs of a busy, dynamic environment.
