Oriel College seeks to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in English from April 2023 to end of September 2024, with responsibility for teaching in the period 1550-1700. Candidates should have completed their doctorate or made substantial progress towards completion, and should be equipped to undertake tutorial teaching and associated duties. The Lecturer will also have some teaching and examining duties in the Oxford English Faculty, providing 16 lectures or equivalent teaching in the academic year 2023-2024. This is a part-time post.
The person appointed will be expected to undertake teaching for an average of 5 contact hours per week during term-time to undergraduates at Oriel College, covering topics in the period 1550-1700 (FHS Papers 1 (Shakespeare), Paper 3 (Literature in English, 1550-1660), and topics before 1700 for Paper 4 (Literature in English 1660-1760), and relevant topics for students of Classics and English). The Lecturer will assist with general administration and the pastoral care of undergraduates, and will participate in undergraduate admissions in weeks 9 and 10 of Michaelmas Term (usually early December).
The salary range for the post is £14,484-£15,978 per annum, depending on experience. Contributory membership of USS (the Universities Superannuation Scheme) is also offered. The post-holder will also have access to a research allocation of £752.05 per annum. The Lecturer will be entitled to ten meals per week during term-time.
