Lecturer in Life Sciences (Biomedical Science)

The available posts are full time and permanent, working 35 hours per week; applications for the post on a part-time (fractional) basis will also be welcomed and considered.

We wish to recruit six new lecturers in Biomedical Science, one to each of the following disciplines:

Cellular Pathology

Clinical Biochemistry

Clinical Immunology

Medical Genetics & Genomics

Haematology/ Transfusion Science

Medical Microbiology.

Applicants should indicate clearly on the application form which of the above posts they are applying for and your application should demonstrate current relevant expertise in that discipline and its application to human disease diagnosis and treatment. A passion for teaching, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level is essential, along with a proven ability to contribute to research and/or knowledge exchange/ professional expertise in the subject area as evidenced through high-quality publications, professional body contributions, presentations at meetings etc.

The appointees will join the academic staff of the School of Life Sciences, which has a wide reputation for teaching, knowledge exchange and research in the heart of London. The School hosts a suite of well-established foundation, undergraduate (BSc) and postgraduate (Masters) courses for both full-time and part-time students.  The appointees will contribute to Biomedical Science and other programmes in the School of Life Sciences, complementing and strengthening the existing teaching team.  Our undergraduate and postgraduate Biomedical Science programmes include the BSc Applied Biomedical Science Apprenticeship (Part Time), BSc Biomedical Science and MSc Biomedical Science programmes, all of which are accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).  The BSc Applied Biomedical Science programme is also approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The School of Life Sciences also delivers undergraduate programmes in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Medical Sciences and Pharmacology and Physiology which, along with the undergraduate Biomedical Science programmes, are accredited by the Royal Society of Biology (RSB).

The School offers an exciting range of undergraduate degrees, postgraduate degrees and short courses with plans to grow its apprenticeship provision.  Located within Fitzrovia in Central London, the School supports more than 2000 diverse, multicultural students. In addition to a variety of established industry sector links, the school hosts a vibrant research community; including ten research groups, three research centres, an overarching cross university research institute (The Institute for Healthy Urban Living) and has plans for further growth and reputation building. As a team member, you will work closely with colleagues across the School and wider University, to maintain the highest quality of teaching, assessment and student pastoral support, providing the best possible experience to School users (primarily students and academic and research staff) in the delivery of the School’s core activities.
