The Screen School at London College of Communication is looking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in factual television.

The course is located in the Screen Schools’ Film and Television programme portfolio of Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.

The Lecturer will teach both the practice and context of factual television production. Contextual analysis will include analysis of factual television genres and formats and the impacts of the digital and streaming revolution, with consideration of sustainability, diversity, and social justice in storytelling and approaches to production. The course aims to advance students’ industry knowledge, and their research, development, practice and collaborative skills in factual tv contexts, both in location-based production and a multi camera television studio production.

The successful candidate will deliver teaching of their expertise, the needs of the curriculum and the management of the course resources.

The appointed candidate will work primarily under the direction of the Course Leader to deliver the course while contributing to School, College and University initiatives including research.

Your profile

You will bring academic knowledge and experience to deliver and further develop students’ practice and analytical skills in factual television production. Your CV will show a minimum of five broadcast credits, as a factual television director and/or producer, and experience of multi-camera TV Studio production will also be an advantage. You will demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the diverse genres and formats of factual television and their cultural impact. You will be able to take a helicopter view of the constantly shifting landscape of factual television production and distribution, in the context of changing viewing habits, changing modes of production, streaming services, the incursion of social media into the territory of television and the cross fertilisation of traditional and new media.

You will demonstrate an ability to teach and motivate a diverse student population to think creatively and critically, guiding them to further research or professional careers. You will promote relationships with professional organisations to provide students with access for networking, collaborative opportunities for research and employability liaisons.

The successful candidate should possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, capable of working alongside full and part time staff. Candidates should demonstrate subject knowledge as well as skills relevant to subject development within an academic, research and professional context.
