The Opportunity:

We seek to appoint a practicing artist with significant teaching experience. The major remit of the post is to provide excellent teaching and a high level of practice-based or practice-led research, supporting the University’s strategic themes: influencing globally, contributing locally, maintaining and creating partnerships with the creative industries.  There will also be an expectation to engage with leadership roles as part of a three-year rotation.We seek to appoint a practicing artist with significant teaching experience. Person Specification:

The post holder will have a national or international reputation in their discipline, a substantial and sustained record of high-quality exhibitions/outputs with demonstrable impact commensurate with the requirements of the next REF cycle.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate research at the highest level and should have experience of supervising research students and/or research assistants/postdoctoral researchers.

The post holder will have a record of leading development activity in relation to learning and teaching policy and practice.

In addition to making a major contribution to the School of Art, the successful applicant will play an active and collegiate role within Edinburgh College of Art, the wider University and the external environment, both nationally and internationally.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A national or international reputation for research and/or teaching
  • A track record in high quality research led practice or practice led research, and attracting funding.
  • Extensive experience in the development and delivery of teaching and learning programmes at both UG and PG level
  • Skill in the supervision, training and mentoring of colleagues
  • Proven ability to plan and lead the delivery of projects and/or programmes and to ensure the delivery of the required outcomes
  • The ability to work across multiple disciplines and perspectives
  • Ability to work within teams with a collegial attitude, respect and sensitivity toward students and other staff members
  • Ability to think ambitiously and creatively about both teaching and research
  • Evidence of being proactive, enthusiastic and highly motivated in developing and delivering new creative and/or research initiatives
