The Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) is seeking to recruit a high calibre health economist with a proven record in Health Economics research. This permanent post builds on recent substantial investment in NCTU by the University of Nottingham. It offers an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to play a key role in establishing the NCTU and Nottingham as an international centre of excellence in health economics and health economics in clinical trials and translational research.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of health economics at Nottingham. The Health Economics Team as well as conducting their own separate portfolio in health economics, contribute a key component in high quality, high impact multicentre trials to improve health and well-being in the NCTU, Nottingham and beyond, including international trials. Results from our research are published in high impact journals such as the BMJ and the Lancet.
NCTU is based in the School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham and has close links with local NHS Trusts (Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and University Hospitals of Derby. The unit is a UK Clinical Research Collaboration registered Clinical Trials Unit (http://www.ukcrc-ctu.org.uk).
The health economics group within the NCTU has a broad portfolio including economic evaluation, policy work and modelling as well as a key function in clinical trials. The team under the leadership of Prof James has strengths in ophthalmology, orthopaedics, surgical trials, mental health (child and adult) and respiratory medicine. The NCTU more generally has many trials in obstetrics and dermatology. Whilst aligning with the research strategy of the School of Medicine and the University the role holder will be expected to develop their own portfolio, whilst contributing to existing research themes and priorities. There is a growing cadre of junior and senior health economic staff at the NCTU that you would play a key role in managing, mentoring and developing.
The post is offered on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours.
